Hosts Nick and Wil discuss a “Topic of the Week” in each episode of NilPod. They include listener responses and their own life experiences in the discussion. Because these two Irishmen have great chemistry and banter well with one another, the show is very entertaining. Nilpod includes catchy intro and outro jingles that remind the listener he is listening to Nilpod. The main problems found included episode lengths that were too long and poor sound quality. It sounds as if Nick and Wil share a microphone, and it is noticeable throughout the recording. To decrease the length of episodes, we suggest Nick and Wil shorten the bantering that occurs before the topic is introduced. The hosts’ personalities have plenty of time to bloom while discussing the main topic so banter is not necessary. Overall, this is an entertaining show worthy of a listen.

Mighty Movie Podcast is dedicated to giving listeners the “behind the scenes” view of movies through interviews with film makers and an occasional movie review. Host Dan Persons is a film journalist who is able to interview note worthy film directors, producers, writers, etc. Mighty Movie Podcast is very informative, and Dan chooses a direct approach when introducing the episode, usually leading straight into the interview. As a result, the length of the episodes are about 20 minutes and left us wanting more. Dan asks great questions and allows his guests to speak. He displays a dry sense of humor which can be taken as brash or highly sarcastic. We recommend Mighty Movie Podcast for listeners who want a different style and presentation for a podcast in the TV and Film category.

Despite possible confusion with the name, The New Devil’s Advocate podcast is an interesting and engaging concept. Hosts David and John offer a unique view when compared to other religious podcasts. The foundation of the show is the differing viewpoints from a devoted Protestant and Catholic in modern society. David is the noted Protestant and easily to identify. John is the more quite and reserved Catholic. Both hosts are very dynamic and animated in their own unique way and quickly captured our attention. At times, guest are included in the episodes, and we found that this really enhanced the content covered. The hosts are well prepared, non argumentative, and informative. Daniel and Jana go into great detail in Episode 75 regarding this podcast. In fact, the time spent discussing The New Devil’s Advocate podcast is the longest ever recorded in Edgy Podcast Review’s history.

Craig’s On The Road To Nowhere is a mash-up of skits, reviews, and other quirky events. Host Craig Williams is at times joined by friends whose purpose is not readily evident. Regular segments include Bland Designs, Craig Questions Things, and our favorite, War Time Diaries. Craig has moments of genuine humor, but listeners should know it is dry humor. We liked the back ground sound effects and the intro. The sound quality is dubious in nature with some episodes having horrid quality while others have a crisp and clean sound. Finally, the show’s release schedule of new content has progressively grown worse. The drop-off in consistency became very noticeable around April 2008. If you don’t mind waiting patiently for a dry comedy show, this one’s for you.

Banzai Beat is a podcast mostly dedicated to the culture surrounding Japanese animation known as anime and how this emerging market is spreading into the U.S. Jellokun is the primary host of the show but is joined by Patz and most recently Zaldar. The episodes that Jellokun has hosted by himself were difficult to listen to all the way through. However, to Jellokun’s credit, he is was aware of his weakness and took action to have others join Banzai Beat which has resulted in a better podcast. We admire the consistent attempts to improve the format and appeal of the show. The production quality has progressively been improving. The format of the podcast has been evolving to promote interactivity with their presence on Blog Talk Radio. On the down side, Banzai Beat’s audio file is excessive at one hundred and ten megabytes. The application of compression along with lowering the bit rate for the audio will result in a drastic reduction in file size.

If you are a sports enthusiast and more specifically a Carolina Panther’s fan, then Cat Crave is produced for you. Cat Crave includes segments such as Rave or Rant, Panther Profiles, and Special Guest. The show is well produced, and host John White is not bashful when it comes to expressing his opinion. Cat Crave’s format is similar to sport programs often heard in a more traditional radio broadcast. This may be the reason why Cat Crave is not listed in iTunes which is a must for podcasters. Through well spoken guest and White’s rants, you will learn all about the Carolina Panthers including the apparent dissatisfaction with Julius Peppers. Listeners will do well checking out Cat Crave to satisfying their thirst for American football; just be sure to visit their website to find the show.
