Talking Golf With Gary

Talking Golf with Gary is a simple podcast. Gary is the host of this golf enthusiast show and updates listeners about the latest news in men’s and women’s professional golf. Unlike many sports podcasts, Talking Golf with Gary does not offer tips on playing golf though it does give a number of statistics. Unfortunately, the show is not very memorable. This led us to wonder why listeners would choose this podcast when other podcasts and even a morning dose of Sports Center is available. We felt we were merely listening to Gary and not “talking with Gary” due to his lack of conversational tone. We would recommend working towards community feedback by asking questions of and requesting feedback from listeners. As of this review we would advise golf enthusiast to pass Talking Golf with Gary.

Erotic Awakening

Category: Health – Sexuality

Erotic Awakening is a weekly podcast that presents a view of untraditional sexual lifestyles. Topics such as BDSM, master-slave relationships, and open marriages are covered throughout the episodes. If listeners are either curious about or are practicing this lifestyle then this podcast is sure to please. Hosts Dan and Dawn do an admirable job of navigating these topics without immaturity or vulgarity saturating the message. Dan has especially come a long way regarding maturity and his role in the podcast. Both hosts are very involved in the “erotic” community by hosting seminars and “how to” sessions. They emphasize the importance of safety by meeting in public places and the use of negotiations and safe words. Unfortunately, a major set back plagues Erotic Awakening: poor audio quality. There only appears to be one microphone shared between the two hosts including when they have a guest on the show. If one can handle the content and the poor audio, then listeners are encouraged to check out Erotic Awakening.

The Tribe: A Survivor Podcast

The Tribe: A Survivor Podcast is adeptly named and targets fans of CBS’ reality show Survivor. Hosts include John, Maggie, Paul, and Adam. Host vocals are backed by Survivor theme music, and sound clips of Survivor content and other entertaining sound samples are included. Adam offers a quick whit and entertaining bantering. Paul serves as the know-all-about-anything-Survivor-person, and Maggie offers her opinion with a cute laugh. This makes for a mix of hosts that offer such a unique personna. Each episode includes a discussion of the week’s Survivor episode and predictions about who will be kicked off the following week. Contestant strategy is a big topic of conversation. The show is paced quickly insuring high entertaining element. Though we had never watched a Survivor episode before, we had to indulge ourselves after listening to this podcast. Because we have previously reviewed John Norton’s other podcast, it came to no surprise that the editing of The Tribe was top-notch. The only concern we have is the tendency for John and Adam to dominate the conversation thus eclipsing Paul and especially Maggie. The Tribe: A Survivor Podcast offers high production value, fun format, and entertaining hosts.

2GodChicks

This new (as of 2010) podcast is about women sharing their hearts and perspectives on being mothers, wives, and christians. The motto is “A show for imperfect moms and flawed chicks.” Many episodes include an interview, and guests are often fellow podcasters. Episodes are concluded with “Scriptures of the Week” that hosts Melody and Wendy share. The hosts desire to encourage women and help them see that they are not alone in their struggles. 2GodChicks has been consistently released even with Wendy just having her baby (March 2010). Topics include marriage, fashion, stereotypes, mistakes made, etc. Unfortunately, we noticed many episodes did not download correctly despite having tried on several computers. Either the RSS feed is invalid or entire episodes are missing from the line-up. In addition to fixing this problem, we recommend the use of the Levelator. This is free software that helps level out the volume of the hosts.

Marvel Star Wars

A podcast looking at the Marvel Comics wacky Star Wars series, issue by issue. For background purposes listeners may need to know that the Marvel Star Wars series was the first series created specifically for the Star Wars saga. This show’s intended audience will appreciate the podcast for its content that includes discussion about writers, artwork, and story lines. Host Joshua is entertaining and keeps listeners’ attention by frequently reading the dialogue and giving the characters different voices. It was sometimes difficult to discern, though, when the host had ended the dialogue from the comic book and began making his own comments. A more obvious change from dialog to commentary would be a good idea. Regarding the recording of the podcast, we highly encourage the use of a pop-filter. Audio plosives plague the episodes when sound effects are made or T’s and P’s are emphasized. Finally, Marvel Star Wars is not consistent with the release of new episodes. There were eleven episodes released in February 2010 compared to one in March.

I'm Not Gonna Lie To You

Category: Comedy

Hosts Kidd and Kramer talk about the things that pop into their minds during this one hour show. Many episodes include guests who are friends of the hosts. Listeners should count themselves warned because this show is full of explicit language and disscussions. Comedy is highly subjective so we can only commit on our own opinions. We felt the comedic element was really “hit or miss” as the hosts quickly went from being relatable and funny to “over the top.” They admit that they are “a tough pill to swallow.” Recently I’m Not Gonna Lie To You has included an introductory song for the show that is well done. We recommend additional post editing. There were a lot of awkward pauses and empty silence that were not used for comedic effect but were simply part of casual conversation. Also, the use of the Levelator would spare listeners from intense high and low ranges of vocal tone and plain loudness.
