Introduction Provided By:
Paleo-Cinema Podcast
Category: TV and Film
Paleo-Cinema Podcast is a look into movie-past. Specifically, the show covers films from 1895-1980 in genres such as horror, cult movies, classic films and more. Occasionally, host Terry Frost will include episodes dedicated to the musical scores that bring life to the screen. Listeners receive a plethora of information regarding casting, set designs, and film location from listening to Paleo-Cinema Podcast. At times it is difficult to digest the content because Terry’s voice tends to be monotonous. However, in recent episodes Terry has grown more transparent with his personality. In summary, Paleo-Cinema Podcast has a wealth of educational value but struggles with the entertainment appeal.

Better In The Dark
Category: TV and Film
Better In The Dark offers an interesting combination of hosting styles from Derrick and Thomas as they discuss movies and sometimes comics. We enjoyed the banter between hosts and the information discussed. Both guys are funny and witty. There are many distractions that keep the podcast from standing out however. First, we could not find the correct RSS feed to download the episodes either in iTunes or at the Better In The Dark homepage. We had to contact Better In The Dark directly. Also, the sound quality is “rough.” Derrick and Tom seem to be sharing one microphone which results in the hosts either being too close or too far away from the mic. It is also evident that episodes are edited heavily, which we normally applaud. However, we recommend leaving some space between sentences to provide for a more natural flow of conversation. Finally, we encourage shorter show lengths, particularly for those over two hours. The commitment required to listen to such lengthy episodes is too much for most listeners.

Masters of None
Category: Society and Culture
Masters of None attempts to answer questions such as: Who is the Greatest Movie Character of All Time?, What are the Worst Songs To Get a Lap Dance To?, and Who is better: Biggie or Tupac?. Masters of None is a hilarious show. In addition to having great radio voices, hosts Mike, Jay, and Art provide a fun and playful environment. Much of the podcast is based around segments such as “Debates,” “Worst to First,” and “Top Ten Listings” for every category imaginable. We loved the randomness of show topics. Here are a few more examples: top gaming console of all time and the worst band names ever. Daniel felt Master of None became too offensive at times, but the hosts clearly give this warning in the show summary. Surprisingly, Jana liked the show so much, she didn’t mind the long episode lengths.
