If adventure has a name, it must be Indiana Jones. The Indy Cast, an integral part of theforce.net, is all about said character. Ed Dolista is an enthusiastic host and is transparent about his love for all things Indiana Jones. The audio inserts taken from clips from the movies (including the theme of Indiana Jones) gives authenticity to the podcast. This show began before the first trailer was released for The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and has carried all the hype with it. The podcast is packed with news from listeners and an efficient aggregation of data. Related toys, video games, and books are all discussed. A trivia question is also posed and answered the following week. Because typical production value was great, it was disappointing to listen to Ed’s interviews of guests not present in the studio. The audio abruptly switched to the host in one channel and the guest occupying the second. This lead to a competition for listeners’ attention and is extremely problematic if a listener is listening with only one ear bud. Overall, The Indy Cast takes listeners through an exciting adventure. Ed plans to continue this show as long as people continue to listen; judging by all the Indy fans out there, that will be quite some time.

Fans of British humor and the likes of movies such as Monty Python may find a home in The Electric Head. Not only are Cy Henty and Allen Ronald the hosts, they are also the writers and performers of this British comedy podcast. An amazing amount of time and effort is put into this show, which lasts anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes per episode. The production value is high and presents listeners with an atmosphere full of sound effects, music, and tonal inflection with flare. Cy and Allan are talented and able to switch between numerous accents and character roles. They keep stories diverse and entertaining thus demonstrating their talent for writing and creating humor. The Electric Head is one of the most unique podcasts we have encountered. While we did not always find the material funny, we realize that cultural differences account for much of our preferential variations. It is also important to note that some questionable language is used and may not be appreciated by all listeners. We are also concerned about the irregularity of production of new content. This has been characterized by long periods of time passing without new shows. In fact, as of this review, the hosts have not put out a new episode since May 12. The Electric Head certainly has its audience but needs new content to keep it.

Katia & Kyliemac (Original Version)
Category: Places & Travel
What do you get when you combine an American with an Australian in France? The Katia and Kyliemac show of course. Katia is from Australia and Kyliemac is from Michigan. These two ladies live in Paris and put together this delightful show about cultural differences. No topic is off limits. Conversations about living arrangements, education styles, and human nature are all covered and content is kept fresh. Katia and Kyliemac demonstrate the skills necessary to create a podcast-community through the playful atmosphere they exude. They give “shout outs” to listeners on their birthdays and strike a pleasant balance when encouraging listeners to participate in spreading news about the show without sounding “preachy.” New listeners may find it difficult to understand what the show is about, however, without listening to a few episodes. We encourage making this clear at the beginning of each episode. Even if listeners are not able to experience other countries, this show is a great way to learn about all the ways one can live and think. It is certainly eye-opening.
