Edgy Reviews from That Podcast Show 9: Podcast Tools Weekly Update, 13 Skulls, The Unexplained World

13 Skulls

Personal Journals

This podcast is hosted by T.J., who’s name, by the way, was difficult to find in the podcast and website. The 13 Skulls is dedicated to bringing the latest news regarding UFO discoveries and other controversies. This show has nice transitions, and music adds to the show’s entertainment value. T.J. responds to his listeners emails and is open to feedback. On the downside, the host does tend to ramble, and the show can get a bit long. The episodes also vary greatly in length from 20 minutes to over an hour. More consistency would be nice. Additionally, we found the show difficult to download in its entirety due to large file size. Compression rate is about three times larger than other shows of same time and quality. 13 Skulls could shrink the file size by lowering the bit rate and moving from stereo to mono. 13 Skulls does have a good start with an “up and coming” hosts. We look forward to seeing where 13 Skulls will go.

Podcast Tools Weekly Update with Paul Colligan

Podcast Tools Weekly Update is hosted by Paul Colligan. The purpose and vision of the show is simple and effective: Give podcasters tools to make the experience of producing more manageable so they can focus more on the content of their shows. Podcast Tools Weekly Update averages 5 minutes in length, which is perfect to meet the show’s objective. The show is nicely produced and presents a balanced view that shows the pros and cons of each product or service being discussed. Paul’s vocals are a bit “tinny,” and this may be a result of the room in which Paul is recording or from adding too much reverb. Vocals could be even better if the bass was tightened up to clean up some unruly high frequencies. All said, podcasters and those working with new media content will do themselves a favor by staying subscribed to Podcast Tools Weekly Update and Paul Colligan.

The Unexplained World

Science & Medicine

Hosts for this podcast are Edward Shanahan, a Spiritual Observer and Psychic Reader and Annette, a High Priestess and Reader. Edward and Annette have compassionate hearts, and their intentions can not be faulted. The hosts truly have their listeners’ best interests in mind and bring guests on the show to provide as much information as possible. Questions for guests, however, do not appear to be prepared ahead of time and are asked in a disorderly manner. Annette often comes to Edward’s rescue by helping him stay on track and finish his thoughts. We also noticed that Edward and Annette talk over one another as well as their guests. This makes it difficult for guest to explain themselves before they are interrupted. The Unexplained World lacks structure and cohesion which may confuse listeners. Additionally, the volume levels were unsatisfactory in every way. No doubt, this is partially a result of using the service Blog Talk Radio, which attempts to make interactive shows easier for podcasters to produce. Enjoyment of The Unexplained World was difficult because of these many obstacles.
