Carrie Runnals hosts this podcast dedicated to talk show-like interviewing of authors. Words to Mouth is a refreshing podcast, and Carrie delivers content using a pleasing voice. She has an ability few interviewers ever achieve: She can adjust her interviewing style to best match the topic of discussion. Carrie’s voice is capable of expressing great excitement, curiosity, and sympathy. In addition to regular episodes that last about 30 minutes in length, “Quick and Wordy” episodes are also available and run about 10 minutes in length. Notable interviews include those with Joshilyn Jackson, J.C. Hutchins, Grammar Girl, and Jason Van Order. Because Carrie asks each author how he or she became a writer, how his work was published, and about his writing style, listeners learn a great deal about the book-writing process. For those simply interested in reading, this show is a great way to find out about authors whose books one may not before have read. Another plus is that interviewed authors regularly donate books for free give-aways to listeners. Our only recommendation is that Carrie say her full name more frequently such as the beginning and ending of each show.

Need a quick idea for a new meal or snack? Then this podcast is for you. Whole Story Food Podcast is offered through Whole Foods Market. Paige Brady hosts this show made up of about 5 minute episodes. She has guests on each show who talk about snacks, treats, sandwiches, and much more. Paige is frequently joined by recipe developer Cindy Cuomo who, as a mother, understands the need for fast, fun, and healthy foods. Listening to the show made us hungry! Clearly, the cast who comprise Whole Story Food Podcast exceeds our ability to cook and create. However, the manner in which the content is presented is simple enough for most enthusiasts to understand. Whole Story is purely an informative show, and Paige is consistent about getting “to the point.” As a result, the time of the podcast and frequency of new shows make it difficult for listeners to relate with Paige. This is a shame because Paige appears able to present much more of herself if given the chance.

If you are looking for a quick and easy way to keep up with the latest technology, this podcast is your ticket. TechStuff is provided by howstuffworks.com. Chris and Johnathan serve as hosts. The duo discuss articles from howstuffworks that involve technology, and listeners can expect consise explanations and discussions. Chris and Johnathan do well in translating written text to spoken word. The hosts are sensitive to listeners who may not understand the tech lingo by giving explanations in a simple manner that will appeal to a large audience. However, we were discouraged when noticing instability issues with TechStuff’s RSS (Really Simple Syndication). In the past few weeks it has worked occasionally but often will cease in the downloading process to Pod Catchers. We were careful to test the RSS feed on several computers and differing operating systems. TechStuff would have a higher rating but the problems distributing content cannot be overlooked.
