Podcast Reviews: Edgy Reviews from That Podcast Show 50: Slashdot Review, Views From The Longbox, and Best Of The Left

****For more detail not included in the written reviews please listen to the show to find out much more.***

Slashdot Review

Category: Tech News

Andy McCaskey leads this Monday through Friday podcast. In about 10 minutes, Slashdot Review summarizes Tech, Business, and Regulatory News. Each episode is comprised of, but not affiliated with, the accumulated daily news from Slashdot, Digg, and Reddit. Andy demonstrates an experienced manner and vocals that sound similar to reporters on National Public Radio (N.P.R.). He discusses a nice variety of tech news and makes it interesting.

Views from the Longbox

Category: TV and Film

Views from the Longbox is a podcast that discusses comic books. In fact, host Michael Bailey describes himself as a Superman Apologist. Michael is refreshing in that he does not come across as a stereotypical comic book snob; he is very genuine. It is obvious that he puts a lot of time into each episode. Listeners receive views regarding comics including the recent focus on feminism and the advantages and disadvantages of “Cross-Over” comic book stories. Michael periodically does interviews with other enthusiasts too. Views from the Longbox’s sound quality, especially while recording at differing locations, is distracting. We would highly recommend using Skype when possible as opposed to using a portable recorder to better sound quality.

Best of the Left Podcast

Category: News and Politics

This politically based podcast is relevant especially now with the upcoming presidential elections. As the title of the show suggests, the podcast is a collection of work from those who classify themselves as Liberal. Best of the Left Podcast employs clips from television, movies, speeches, and interviews to make-up much of its content. The clips are often funny and usually about national issues as opposed to specific candidates. We are concerned, however, about the heavy use of copy-written material. We assume (though it is never said) that the materials are used with permission. Listeners looking for a political podcast representing the Democratic party will not be disappointed by this show.
