Real Talk

Category: Comedy

Real Talk is an unstructured conversation between a group of friends, featuring shockingly honest discussion about their lives, including sex, drugs, childhood, and adolescent mistakes. Hosts Nick and Dan are humorous and relatable, and they frequently have guests who join in the conversations. Even when they are talking to mutual acquaintances unknown to the listener, the stories remain interesting. Sue thoroughly enjoyed Nick, whom she found to be incredibly self-aware and open to full-disclosure. We do suggest the hosts remember to introduce themselves and guests in each episode. Also, some episodes have questionable audio, specifically Episode 002, in which one of the hosts was using a very poor microphone. Additionally, this show was difficult to find due to possible multiple feeds of episodes.

MetroBuzz

Category: Comedy

Metrobuzz has an incredibly large online community and a dedicated following. No doubt this led to MetroBuzz being nominated for “Best Comedy” in the 2008 Podcast Awards. Its hosts, John and Colleen, discuss all aspects of pop culture with lots of fun segments including Urban Dictionary, Spotlight, Top 5, and American Idol for the Idol American among others. They use lots of music and audio clips to keep the show upbeat and interesting and occasionally throw in original, creative sketches that keep the show consistently funny. Impressively from a technical and organizational standpoint, MetroBuzz has included ten or more guests on Skype at one time. This displays a rare talent in editing and technical know-how. Aside from the occasional rant and sounding scripted at times, Metrobuzz is an excellent pop culture podcast that is pumped full of energy and humor.

My Living Room! Radio Show Podcast

Category: Music

My Living Room! Radio is a music podcast that invites listeners into host Cheryl Hoar’s “living room” to hear her favorite playlists. It brings an energetic medley of electronica and alternative music in which each track is unique and interesting, blending perfectly with the next. The audio quality is excellent, especially for a music podcast, and as listeners, we felt completely immersed in the music. This show is unique when compared to other music podcasts because of the occasional interview Cheryl has with well known or up-and-coming musicians. Unfortunately, Cheryl doesn’t include any information about the songs included in each episode. If a listener enjoys a particular song, he has to go online to find out what it is. Overall, this is a great music podcast and highly recommended for anyone interested in new music, especially electronica.
