Skepticality – Science and Revolutionary Ideas
Category: Science and Medicine
Skepticality is the official podcast of Skeptic Magazine. It features in-depth discussions of many different topics from a skeptical perspective. Most episodes feature interviews with other skeptics or experts on a given topic. Rarely episodes feature the hosts, Derek and Swoopy, by themselves. Television shows are discussed often and given a skeptical watchability rating. This is a very good show that gives an additional perspective on topics that the mainstream media feeds to the public. Open-minded listeners will learn to think critically and be more aware of those out to deceive. Derek and Swoopy are great, entertaining hosts who use music and audio clips to keep the show upbeat and interesting. Also, this show has been produced consistently since April of 2005. Due to the many recording environments, the show’s sound quality understandably suffers, but being able to record in various places allows the hosts to interview a great variety of people.

Sex, Love and Intimacy
Category: Science and Medicine
Sex, love, and Intimacy is a podcast about sexuality with a focus on intimacy within monogamous, heterosexual, and long-term sexual relationships. Each episode features an interview with an author or expert on an area of sexuality. Host Chip August is an effective interviewer who is able to relate with his guests but is not afraid to oppose their view points if he disagrees. Unfortunately, Chip’s audio sounded as if he was calling into a central hub that recorded his vocals along with the guests. As a result, Chip’s audio sounded like it was coming from a poor cell-phone call. Since we are unsure of the exact recording procedures and equipment employed, it is difficult to recommend a better solution. Overall, this is an interesting and informative podcast for heterosexual couples interested in deepening their intimacy and sexual relationship.

Genealogy Gems Podcast
Category: Kids and Family
Genealogy Gems Podcast has an intense focus on the importance of the preservation of family and historical traditions. Host Lisa Louise Cooke shares tips that she calls her ‘genealogy gems’ for researching genealogy. Some episodes feature interviews with others involved in different aspects of genealogy research. Lisa starts each episode with news about the show then gets into her gems or interview. Lisa is a great host who is clearly passionate about the topic. She also does a good job of relating different issues in her own life to techniques that can be used in genealogy research. She employs the recordings of nostalgic speeches and music which adds a unique ambience to the show. However, the use of these recordings was excessive at times. This is a good show for anyone interested in genealogy, although it is fairly inconsistent in releasing new shows.
