Historyzine

Category: History

This is an exploratory history podcast that shares the fun and adventure of discovering history through the use of good storytelling. Episodes include history podcast and book reviews along with the history behind certain words we use in modern language. The host, Jim, has a clean and concise English accent that is a terrific match with his persona. Historyzine has increased the amount of ambient effects that add to the story-telling element to the show as well. Jim does a tremendous amount of research for each episode and is sure to state his sources. A weakness of Historyzine is the lack of publishing new content with consistency. Sometimes there are months between new episode releases on the RSS feed. With all this said, we encourage history lovers and those interested in learning about history in an entertaining way to check out Historyzine.

The Basil Bottler Show

Category: Comedy

As the podcast title suggests, Basil Bottler hosts this show full of random discussions about his personal need to meet girls, bits of music, and the latest news regarding his rocket ship (which will be manure-powered). Listening to The Basil Bottler Show is a unique experience and, at times, quite depressing. It is possible that Basil’s show is a form of British humor that is simply lost on us. While the show is of good length, Basil is inconsistent in releasing new episodes. There also does not appear to be a great deal of improvement in show quality despite the fact that there are numerous episodes. Basil does ask for ways to better promote “The Basil Bottler Show” so we have some basic suggestions. These include the use of services such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace to their breaking points. Also, many hosts have found commenting on other podcasts along with interacting with message boards and other new media forums to be very helpful in promoting their shows.

Podcast in your Face

Category: Comedy

To begin with, “Podcast in your Face” is a great name. Hosts Rick and Nick discuss topics such as music, films, and pop culture. Their personalities “mesh” really well, and this results in a very entertaining show. Podcast in your Face has also drastically improved the style and energy of the show since early episodes. Rick and Nick interview interesting and many times very funny guests which gives them an opportunity to display their solid interviewing skills. In each episode, the hosts give their “Song of the Day” or ask their guest for his/her “Song of the Day.” They then proceed to play an insert of the song for listeners. This is a great way for listeners to discover new music they may enjoy. Podcast in your Face is consistent in producing new material as well as in a nice show length. We recommend checking this one out.
