Our Big Dumb Mouth
Category: Comedy
Our Big Dumb Mouth earns the “Explicit” tag. Each episode starts strong with witty bantering and faster responses from the hosts. Obscure news, hosts’ personal lives, and prank calls are all part of the show. However, as the episodes progress, the humor evolves into crudeness with more rambling. Our Big Dumb Mouth is a funny podcast, and many listeners will enjoy the content. Yet humor is subjective, and we would not recommend the podcast to listeners sensitive to offensive content and language. Regarding production quality, we were very pleased to hear how tightly controlled the audio levels were, especially with many hosts often raising their voices to be heard. The background laugh tracks inserted throughout the show were successful in adding to the comedy.

The Coffeebreak with Mr Coffeesleeve
Category: Comedy
The Coffeebreak with Mr. Coffeesleeve introduces the world’s first talking coffee sleeve. His co-host his Nev Moore, and the podcast is unlike any we have come across. Mr. Coffeesleeve and Nev banter before what sounds like a sound-effect filled live audience complete with laugh tracks. The style of production gives the show a unique sound with flanging altered voices. The hosts have a lot of vocal talent that successfully keeps the portrayed characters distinct. However, the problems occur when the audio effects and voices become unintelligible. The hosts often speak too quickly, and the effects come across too strong which can confuse the listener. We hope The Coffeebreak with Mr Coffeesleeve can better communicate the podcast theme. We really enjoyed the uniqueness and audio production offered, but if listeners cannot understand the podcast, what is the point?

The Night Barbers
Category: Comedy
Tommy, Skeeter, Rob, Moochie, and Mole make up The Night Barbers crew. The hosts were once in a band together but have since turned to podcasting about stupid people in the news. Kate, the computerized hostess, is a text-to-speech voice similar to Microsoft Windows Vista’s “Anna.” The Nights Barber Show is not for those easily offended and certainly earns the Explicit tag. Sound production is very professional and no doubt due to the hosts’ studio experience. Audio levels were always maintained with a refreshing amount of reverb giving vocals a “warm” tone. Another positive in The Night Barbers favor is the consistency of new episode releases. The Night Barbers Show has congenial talent, great production but questionable comedy regarding the podcast’s offensive content.
